The Weekly Drip - Season 4 Episode 10
Ashley Tullis, Dripping Springs number one realtor, and Amber Pierce with COIT Cleaning and Restoration, are back with your Weekly Drip talking about all the fun things to do in Dripping Springs this week. We've got star parties, our upcoming Founder's Day, and even some Reggae music to change things up! Keep on reading our Weekly Drip recap to find out more or click the replay video below. If you find yourself needing some entertainment at 2pm CST on a Wednesday, be sure to catch these ladies on Facebook Live sharing all things Dripping Springs.
Ashley predicts the end of our beautiful spring weather and the inevitable sweltering summer heat is upon us. She's probably not wrong and even if she is, the weather man is always wrong too. Amber is hoping the mild weather sticks around till next weekend which is none other than the greatly anticipated Dripping Springs Founder's Day Festival. Just Dripping Springs favorite event of the year, no big deal. Amber loves that Founder's Day is an event where she feels she can let her kids run around freely and knows they are safe and everyone is watching out for them. That's definitely the small town charm of Dripping Springs. Ashley's favorite part of Founder's Day is the parade but she also thinks one thing that's missing from Founder's Day is some sort of race. She reminisced about her hometown festival in Burnet, TX, the Bluebonnet Festival, and how they'd have people craft carts out of beds and race their creations. Amber lived in Nevada near the town of Virginia City where they have a festival and they would race outhouses! That sounds like some risky business! Hopefully no one tipped over the outhouses! Amber thinks she and Ashley could surely talk to someone with to make races at Founder's Day a thing in the future.
One of the Weekly Drip viewers mentioned they hope the weather is warm for Founder's Day so they sell more beer which leads us directly into talking about food as usual. Ashley noted that restaurants that offer peanuts at the bar, do so in order to make people drink more beer because the saltiness of the peanuts directly increases the consumption of beer. They were both specifically thinking of a large chain restaurant that allowed the barbaric act of throwing peanut shells on the floor. It's definitely not a local Dripping Springs restaurant so we shall leave it unnamed, but I'm sure you can figure it out. Amber reminds us we have better restaurants here locally with peanut-shell-free floors like Turcotte's and Thyme and Dough.
Ashley reminded us that it's International Dark Skies week and there are a handful of events going on around town to celebrate. Did you know Dripping Springs is recognized as an International Dark Sky community? We have a whole blog post about it here if you want to find out more. Ashley shared that on Friday 4/21, Jester King is having a Star Party. She noted that you need to get your tickets in advance so click here to get more info and get your tickets. tickets in advance jester king is having a star party. Ashley also mentioned that Reimers Ranch has an observatory and they have events all the time including this coming Sunday where they'll be looking at star clusters and gases. Amber shared about the Blue Hole Star Party happening this Saturday in Wimberley. The Texas State astronomy club will be there sharing their telescopes and their knowledge about the stars. You can bring a blanket and a picnic and have a grand time in the dark admiring our star-filled skies.
Amber let us know that this Friday is Fly Friday at Suds Monkey Brewing. They will have live reggae music which is not something often found in Dripping Springs. Amber shared that her first concert was actually a reggae band called Jawbone. I don't think Jawbone will be performing at Suds Monkey, but it should be a good time. Ashley told us her first concert was Melissa Etheridge at the Erwin Center when she was young, but her first teenage concert in High School was Tom Petty. She wishes she skipped the Melissa Etheridge concert in 6th grade so she could claim Tom Petty as her first concert, but that's not the way the cookie crumbled!
On Thursday, the PAWS Shelter has their annual Dinner by the Bite. This event is held at Wilson Appliance where they will have several kitchens set up with different chefs cooking small bites. It's $75 for advance tickets or $85 at the door with proceeds of course benefitting PAWS shelter. If you've been here a while, you'll remember that one of our past co-hosts, Kyle the Cat, is actually from the PAWS Shelter so it's very near and dear to Amber's animal-loving heart.
Ashley shared there's a need for volunteers for the Zapata Home in a Month project. She noted you don't have to have any skills, they will find something for you to do. That will be this Saturday 4/22.
Another upcoming event you don't want to miss is the Dripping Springs Family Campout on Cinco de Mayo (completely unrelated to Cinco de Mayo celebrations, just a coincidence). This event will be at Ranch Park featuring a stargazing party at 7pm followed by a donut breakfast and hike to burn off said donuts the next morning. It's $25 for up to 4 people and you can register here.
It was mentioned last week, but Amber shared another reminder about Ashley's property tax protest zoom event next Wednesday 4/26 at 6pm. It's a free zoom session to give you an easy button to have someone check on your property tax value every year. You can register for the event at the link here.
